Brooklyn Nets Expected to Offer Max Deal to Austin Reaves

By Jaiden Jordan

There has been some news in the NBA world this week that has loomed with the Brooklyn Nets and a star guard they can pursue this offseason. According to reports from the Athletic, the Nets are expected to offer Los Angles Lakers guard Austin Reaves a 4-year, $178.5 million max deal.

Reaves’ potential salary equates to an average annual salary of about $44.6 million. As expected, this offseason in free agency many teams around the league like the Brooklyn Nets are expected to steal Reaves away if the Lakers don’t retain him.

The Lakers ($48.1 million) and the Nets ($46.9 million) are the second and third teams in the entire NBA with the most cap space to spend this summer. The Lakers will be one of the most interesting teams to watch out for as they have a lot of big time decisions to make. From helping build a championship team around Luka Dončić, figuring out the worth of Austin Reaves’ next contract, and if LeBron James will retire or not?

On the other hand with the Brooklyn Nets, they have many avenues to turn to as well. The Brooklyn Nets are currently the youngest team in the NBA, with the average roster age of 23.26 years old. The Nets can continue to go young with the team having three more picks in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft that is less than two weeks away. Or the Nets can start building a competent team by getting a guard in Reaves that knows how to win and be a building block to help revitalize the Nets.

Less than a month ago, the NBA officially passed a “3-2-1” draft lottery reform to stop tanking. The Nets and the other 29 teams all have to stop tanking and compete at a high level. Next year in the 2026-2027 NBA season, you will see all 30 teams as competitive as possible with the NBA’s new rules.

On the other side of New York, the Knicks just won the 2026 NBA championship against the San Antonio Spurs in five games while the Nets look to use this offseason to get back on track to compete at a higher level.
