Brooklyn Nets Win Two in a Row, Break 10-Game Losing Streak

By Jamie Rafael Mocling-Pan

The tank comes to a temporary halt after the Brooklyn Nets defeat the number one seed, Detroit Pistons, to get their first win since February 9. With their wins over the Pistons and Grizzlies, the Nets place themselves 13th in the Eastern Conference.

The Nets are now in fourth place in the race for the first pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, according to Tankathon

Brooklyn Takes Cleveland Cavaliers to Free Throw Battle in Close Loss

The Brooklyn Nets took a close loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 106 to 102 defeat. In his return from injury, former Net James Harden put up 22 points to break a two-game losing streak and beat the Nets.

Harden suffered a fracture in his thumb during Cleveland’s matchup against the Knicks on Tuesday. After missing two games, Harden returned like he never got injured. In addition to the 22 points, he was 4 of 7 from the 3-point line, had nine rebounds, and eight assists.

For the Cavaliers, Jarrett Allen had 20 points, Evan Mobley had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, Sam Merrill had 15 points, and Dennis Schroder had 10 points.

For Brooklyn, Michael Porter Jr. had a game with 26 points on 10 of 17 shooting from the field, Danny Wolf had 23 points and nine rebounds, Nolan Traore had 17 points, and Grant Nelson had 11 points for the night.

The Nets had a six-point lead at the end of halftime, but the Cavaliers were able to come out of the break fresh and ready, as they regained their lead and created an eight-point lead midway through the fourth quarter. The Nets kept it to within a point after a two-pointer by Traore and a free throw by Wolf.

It was a free-throw battle in the final seconds between the Cavaliers and Nets, in which Cleveland came out victorious thanks to free throws by Schroder and Mobley to win the game.

Miami Heat Squash Nets in Blowout Loss for Brooklyn

The Nets took another loss, falling 124 to 98 to the Miami Heat. It was a showcase for Grant Nelson and his 11 points, along with it being Danny Wolf’s best game so far this season. Despite the loss, Wolf showed out, putting up 23 points. Nelson showed a lot of athleticism and defense throughout the game and is looking to be a key bench addition for Brooklyn.

It was Newark, New Jersey’s Bam Adebayo’s 23 points, six steals, and nine rebounds that carried the Heat to a blowout win over Brooklyn. Behind him was Tyler Herro with 22 points, and 20 points for Jaime Jaquez Jr.

The Heat shot strongly throughout the game, shooting 53 percent in the first half. The Heat continued their momentum for the rest of the game, putting the Nets away with a 27-point insurmountable lead.

For the Nets, Noah Clowney led with 17 points, Ziaire Williams had 16 points, and Traore had 14 points. For Nets’ leading scorer Porter Jr., he struggled with only scoring nine points and shooting 3 of 17 from the field.

It was a rough game for Brooklyn, with the rookie point guards garnering six turnovers and no assists for Traore. The Nets struggled to stop Miami’s shooting, allowing 53 percent from the field in the first half.

The Nets as a whole had a tough night, and while the loss was beneficial for the tanking season, it was rough to see the players individually struggle to stay afloat against Miami.

Nets Make It Close, But Not Close Enough in Rematch Against Miami

Brooklyn took a 126- 110 loss to the Miami Heat after their second straight matchup. It was Herro who led the Heat with 25 points, with Adebayo behind with 21 points, along with 18 points by Jaquez Jr., and 16 points for both Pelle Larsson and Kel’el Ware.

The Nets were able to recover from Tuesday’s game, but still took a loss despite keeping the game close in the first half.

The Nets took a small lead in the third quarter but inevitably lost after giving up 66 points in the second half. Miami yet again shot 53 percent from the field, and outscored the Nets’ bench 54 to 34.

For Brooklyn, Porter Jr. had 27 points, Clowney had 17 points, Claxton had 16 points, and Williams had 15 points.

While it was a close game and there were good performances by Porter Jr. and Clowney, fans were left scratching their heads after seeing a lack of playing time for the young guys. There’s been limited playing time for the young guys, as well as a “DNP” for Nelson, who has been playing decently in the few games he has suited up for Brooklyn.

Fans question head coach Jordi Fernandez’s rotations and playing-time decisions for his players, and are left confused about the Nets’ mid-season goals.

Brooklyn Breaks Streak in Win Over Detroit Pistons

The Brooklyn Nets grabbed themselves a come-from-behind win against the Detroit Pistons, the first place team in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, in a 107 to 105 victory. Porter Jr. led with a double-double with 30 points and 13 rebounds, with Williams behind with 23 points.

It was Williams’ two 3-pointers in the final minutes of the game that broke a 10-game losing streak, with Brooklyn winning their first game since before the All-Star Break.

For Detroit, Tobias Harris had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Jalen Duran had a double-double as well with 17 points and 14 rebounds. The Pistons were without their top stars in Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson, who were out due to injury.

The Nets were behind by as much as 23 points in the third quarter and continued to trail in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The Nets did a great job rallying together and went on an 18-to-6 offensive run to come back and gain the momentum they needed for the win. Brooklyn also stonewalled Detroit in the second half, holding Detroit to 22 points on 36.8 percent shooting from the field.

Day’Ron Sharpe helped the Nets regain momentum midway through the fourth quarter and put the Nets to within eight points. Another basket by Sharpe in the final minutes put Brooklyn to within four. After the late 3-pointer by Williams, the Nets took the lead.

Detroit played sloppily, and despite Brooklyn committing sloppy plays of their own, like a shot-clock violation and a turnover, Brooklyn managed to come out with the win after a failed go-ahead 3-point attempt by Duncan Robinson.

Wolf put up another great performance and is looking to come into his own as a player and clean up the rookie mistakes. Sharpe performed well on his momentum-shifting plays, which led Brooklyn to the win.

Even though the tank is necessary and the losses will help bring about a better future for Brooklyn, an occasional win can do wonders for team chemistry and morale, especially during a season that is expected to be thrown away.

Brooklyn Draft Odds Slip After Second Straight Win

The Nets won their second straight game in a 126 to 115 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. With Sharpe’s 19 points and Ochai Agbaji’s 18 points, the Nets took down the injury-riddled Grizzlies and won their second straight game.

Traore added on with 17 points as Porter Jr. rested for the night. The Grizzlies were without a majority of their players, all of whom were out due to injury. With nine players missing, Memphis had only eight players available to play.

For the Grizzlies, Rayan Rupert had a career-high 20 points, with Javon Small behind him with 19 points. The Nets led with a small lead in the third quarter before ramping up and taking over in the fourth. The Nets put the game away after a three-pointer by Traore and a pair of buckets by Agbaji, leading by 15.

It was a good win for Brooklyn, but it felt unnecessary to have guys like Sharpe and Claxton in the game. If the Nets’ goal is to get a top pick, their rotations should consist of bench guys and the rookies. The Nets have a roster of young guys who need more playing time, and to beat an injury-riddled team seemed pointless.

While the team should not deliberately lose games, they should readjust their lineups to focus more on giving experience to the young guys rather than the majority of their starters. Guys like Claxton and Sharpe should come off the bench in games like the one against Memphis.

What’s Next For The Nets

Unfortunately, Nets’ rookie sensation Egor Demin will be out for the remainder of the season with plantar fasciitis on his left foot. Demin ends his season with an average of 10.3 points per game.

This does not affect the Nets’ outlook for the remainder of the season, but it is a huge hit to the team and Demin himself. Nets’ fans can hope Demin has a smooth recovery and rebounds back to form.

Demin will hopefully have a stronger sophomore season, and after the draft, the Nets can set a path towards success with Demin coming back healthy and ready to help steer the ship.
