The New Jersey Devils fell to the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 at their home arena, the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. This was their third loss against the Hurricanes this season. It also snapped the Devils’ two-game winning streak and sent them back into the losing column once again.
The Devils put up a good fight, but the struggle continued throughout the night. The team has been struggling all season and currently stands at 24-22-2 after 48 games.
In the first period, the two teams went scoreless.
Andrei Svechnikov scored two goals during the second period and gave Carolina the lead.
The Devils, however, put up a good fight when Timo Meier scored a power play goal during the third, putting the Devils up on the scoreboard. However, the Hurricanes came back and scored another goal, taking the lead once again over New Jersey.
The Devils’ cake topping came with 4:08 left in the third, when Svechnikov completed a hat trick, allowing them to take the win tonight at the Prudential Center. He was not the only contributor throughout this game. Sebastian Aho and Frederik Andersen made a total of 28 saves during this game.
Meier scored, and Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves for the Devils tonight. However, Meier was the only one to score anything on the board in this game tonight. They struggled in tonight’s game. The Devils could not convert the chances they had, and they had a good handful of power-play opportunities.
The Devils struggled in nearly all aspects of tonight’s game. They only had one play that changed the game. The Devils also struggled in speed and quickness during the neutral zone. It will be sooner rather than later that the Devils will start making decisions on their players if they can’t make the plays happen.
The Devils have their work cut out for them before their next game, which is Monday night against the Calgary Flames.
