Did The Giants Head Coach and General Manager Just Save Their Jobs After The Draft?

By Jordan Beaudoin

The New York Football Giants just had the best draft they have had in several years.

Head Coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen decided who to draft, knowing what they needed for this coming year. This draft will benefit the Giants team and the front office during the upcoming 2025 NFL season.

After last season, Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll were under fire for the entire season’s outcome. They finished 3-14 and let their starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, go. It wasn’t long after that they lost their former star running back, Saquon Barkley to their rivals the Philadelphia Eagles.

John Mara has repeatedly stated that he was running out of patience with his general manager and head coach. Many had thought it would be best to let these two go because they weren’t doing what the team needed them to do. They also let go of several players who meant a lot to Big Blue, who went to other teams over the last several seasons.

The Giants had the right idea in keeping them for this year. After this draft, the bonus for them is that these two may have just saved their jobs for the coming season.

Daboll and Schoen knew what the Giants needed. They needed a quarterback, more pieces to the puzzle to fix their defensive line, and a right guard. Improvements were required on both the offensive and defensive lines, and they did just that. These two managed to touch base on all areas by drafting Jaxson Dart, Abdul Carter, Cam Skattebo, and others—many unexpected players brought to the Giants.

All who have already proven they have had spectacular college careers. It’s not going to be any different from the college field to the NFL field at Metlife stadium for each one of them. If they can produce in this league, it will make the general manager and head coach have better hopes for the future.

These two may have built a much better team than they had the previous year. It’s a good look for them; they had a good draft last year, too, but this year was going to make or break them for the Giants. There is no talk of going to the Super Bowl yet, but if the Giants play ten times better than they did last season, they may have a chance this coming year of making the postseason.

It will also depend on who runs the front office. In this case, if Schoen and Daboll had a deadline set and were told that if theft didn’t bring the Giants up to par with the rest of the league, they would be out as the manager and the coach.

However, they pulled it together for the Giants. They didn’t want to be let go; however, if they have another season like last, the Giants franchise would not be happy with them, and it would be the end of the era.

After this draft, the two saved their jobs and will continue to be part of Big Blue for this upcoming season and hopefully the next ones.
