The Philadelphia Eagles visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road with both teams at a 3-0 record to start off the season. The Eagles were coming off a comeback win against the Rams last week; While the Bucs also had a comeback win of their own against the Jets at home. The Bucs have beaten the Eagles in the previous two times they have played one another. They won last season 33-16 at home and also beat Philly in the wild card at home as well.
The game got off to a crazy start. After a quick drive for the Bucs they punted but it was blocked and recovered by the Eagles as Sydney Brown ran it the distance for an Eagles touchdown. This would foreshadow the future events of the first half for the Eagles. Philly would start their dominance as Jalen Hurts ran it the distance for a 29-yard run. Hurts threw a two-yard pass to Dallas Goedert (TE) for the touchdown. It was a quick 14-0 lead then the Bucs kicker Chase Mclaughlin sank a field goal. In the second quarter, the Eagles would have another successful drive as Hurts threw a 22-yard dime into the endzone to Goedert for his second touchdown of the game. Both teams would have field goals to close out the half. The Eagles led 24-6 at halftime.
In the second half, the script would be flipped. Jalen Hurts had zero passing yards. Both teams would start off the half with punts. Bucs QB Baker Mayfield threw a bomb to (WR) Emeka Egbuka for a 77-yard touchdown and the extra kick for a 24-13 lead for the Eagles. The Eagles would respond as Saquon Barkley rushed into the endzone for the touchdown which had the Eagles extending the lead 31-13.
Baker Mayfield and the Bucs would respond as he threw a 72 yard bomb to (RB) Bucky Irving for the touchdown. The Bucs made a field goal the next drive to cut the lead to 31-23. Mayfield led a clutch drive for the Bucs but threw a costly interception that was caught by Eagles’ linebacker Jihaad Campbell. The Eagles would punt again and the Bucs got a turnover on downs. The Bucs got a safety but it didn’t matter as the Eagles won 31-25 and remained with a perfect record of 4-0.
Even though the Eagles won, A.J Brown posted a cryptic message on twitter. In the tweet he brought out a scripture in Mark 6:11 which is: “If you’re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way”. Brown is obviously upset as he only finished with 2 receptions for 7 yards. This could be something to look out for in the coming weeks if this continues to happen.
The Buccaneers next play the Seattle Seahawks on the road in Seattle Sunday October 5 at 1 p.m. The Eagles next play the Denver Broncos at home Sunday October 5 at 1 p.m.
