Giants vs. Commanders Matchup Preview and Prediction

By Nikki Gist

Betting It All On Big Blue

After a miserable three-win 2024 season, the Giants look to start fresh in 2025 with a road upset against Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders. Historically, the Giants have owned this matchup, but last year was the exception as Washington swept the series. With Daniels firmly at the helm and fresh off a deep playoff run, the Commanders are no longer a cakewalk. And let’s be real. Washington enters 2025 with far more expectations than New York.

No one in New York wants a repeat of last season, but no one’s expecting the Giants to be world-beaters either. They can quietly roll into Northwest Stadium on Sunday and shock the Commanders with a win that would send a message to the rest of the division: these aren’t your 2024 Giants anymore.

It won’t be easy. The addition of Russell Wilson brings much-needed leadership and decisiveness to an offense that’s been lost under Daniel Jones. But the offensive line remains questionable for the 12th straight year, and while rookies Abdul Carter has looked as advertised so far, the defense still struggled with missed tackles, turnovers, and discipline last season.

On the flip side, Washington did little this offseason to address its defensive issues, and matching last year’s success won’t be easy. Daniels is clutch, but Terry McLaurin has historically struggled against the Giants. Both teams have had inconsistent run games, but the Giants’ defensive front is expected to be a real problem this season.

This game comes down to who forces the key turnover. And for that reason, I’m betting it all on Big Blue to pull off the upset.

Giants win and cover (+6.5)
O/U: 45.5  Take the over
Final Score: Giants 26, Commanders 23
