By LiaMarie Nuzzi

During the New Jersey Devils’ game against the Florida Panthers this past Tuesday, Jack Hughes hit an impressive career milestone—300 points. This achievement marks a significant moment in his rapidly growing career.

Jack Hughes was drafted first pick, first overall, to the New Jersey Devils in the 2019 draft. Since then, everyone knew that he would be a star. Coming from the Sunshine state, Hughes has become one of the most-known faces of hockey.

Facing the National Hockey League, Jack Hughes became a rookie and like most players, struggled to adjust to their first year playing at such an extreme level. Despite Hughes having a difficult first season, he always played his best game. Hughes often faced a lot of hate, during the beginning of his well-known career. For quite some time, critics questioned his strengths and skill, but Hughes was instantly able to silence any doubters with his consistent, standout performances that demonstrated his talent and work ethic.

Prior to Jack Hughes joining the New Jersey Devils, he played for the USA National Team Development Program. He played two seasons with the team, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. At the end of the 2017-2018 season, Jack Hughes won Junior Player of the Year.

Since his difficult rookie season — Hughes has proved himself as he navigated through the waters of being a rookie, and has continuously made it to the top.

Hughes, who was named Alternate Captain for the Devils in the 2022-2023 season alongside Ondrej Palat, has proven himself to be an invaluable leader on and off the ice. Jack Hughes has made continuous history alongside his brothers, Quinn Hughes, who is the Captain of the Vancouver Canucks and plays defense, and Luke Hughes who is also a defenseman for the New Jersey Devils. During this season, Hughes also set a franchise record for the Devils’ — this record was 99 points in just one season.

Throughout Jack Hughes career, he has made history and has met multiple career milestones. Jack Hughes is now known to be the fastest New Jersey Devil to conquer 300 career points in history of Devils hockey — including previous names; Scouts and the Rockies. Hughes passed Kirk Muller, who was the fastest Devil to reach 300 career points. Jack Hughes made history with a first-period goal against the Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers. Jack Hughes has played a total of 325 career games, which has totaled to 122 career goals and 178 player assists. Just 20 games in, Hughes has nine goals and 14 assists. Moving forward, Jack Hughes is projected to have another outbreak of a season.
