Jalen Hurts Out for the Season, What’s Next for the Teetering Eagles

By Earl Spence

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for the Philadelphia Eagles as more unfortunate news has arrived. Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for the reason after a discovery of blood clots in his lungs.

Hurts will undergo treatment which involves the use of blood thinners. NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that Hurts was advised by doctors to not sleep in the 36 hours before the Jaguars vs Eagles game in London. The reports are still unclear and Pelissero withdrew the report as it conflicted with other reports. Initially, the blood clots were in his leg and traveled up to both of his lungs.

This season, Philadelphia has been ravaged by injuries. Saquon Barkley has missed back-to-back weeks. DeVonta Smith just came back from his hamstring injury vs the Panthers. The Eagles have lost four straight games.

Offensively, Philly hasn’t been good for the second straight season even after another new offensive coordinator. The offensive line has also declined this season. Lane Johnson had retired and Cam Jurgens was traded to the Baltimore Ravens.

Philly is now 2-4 on the season as the NFC East is up for grabs. The Giants lead the division with a record of 3-2-1, Philadelphia and Dallas are both 2-4, and the Commanders are last at 1-4-1.

Tanner McKee is set to be the starting quarterback and Saquon is expected to be back for Philly for their week 7 matchup against the Cowboys. While the past couple of weeks have been rough there is still a shot for them to get into the playoff picture despite the walls starting to close in.
