The New York Giants’ season has quickly been flipped upside down, as the heart and soul of the team, quarterback Jaxson Dart, has been ruled out for the season with damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus after a hit occurred on the first drive of the game against the Rams on Monday Night Football.
After multiple reports surfaced, it was confirmed today to the media by head coach John Harbaugh that Dart will indeed be out for the season. When asked about the timeline, Harbaugh said, “Regular season at least, I’d say,” leaving the door open for a possible return if the Giants somehow make the playoffs.
So, what does Big Blue look like moving forward? Yes, the leader of the franchise is out, but the rest of the season still needs to play out. Jameis Winston will be “QB1” for the foreseeable future and will lead the G-Men against the Titans at home on Sunday.
The Giants will likely roll with a run-heavy offense, paving the way for Cam Skattebo to “pound the rock” against Tennessee. Winston had a rough day on Monday, going 11-for-27 with 111 yards and one interception in relief of Dart following the injury.
However, Winston is expected to look a lot different moving forward, now being able to practice with the first team all week and develop a game plan tailored to his style of play.
The former 30/30 season quarterback (30 touchdowns, 30 interceptions) will have his work cut out for him as he looks to prove many Giants fans wrong who believe the season is already over.
Jaxson Dart wasn’t the only player banged up against the Rams. Linebacker Brian Burns suffered a low ankle injury and is not expected to need surgery, but will likely miss some time, per ESPN insider Adam Schefter.
The Giants are 1-1 heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Titans. It remains to be seen how this roster will adjust to the new signal-caller under center.
