The New York Jets are back in action this season kicking it off tonight against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in preseason football.
Head Coach Aaron Glenn said everyone is playing tonight and the expected snap count for the veterans is around 25-30 plays.
This is a good decision by the Jets as it’s important to see how their starting lineup is looking so far into the early parts of the season. We will get to see how the offense looks led by new and returning quarterback Geno Smith.
Smith is coming off a not so good season last year in Las Vegas, so we will see how he performs tonight with all the weapons New York brings to the table.
A lot of questions are being asked on Smith and if he can still perform at a starting level. Tonight we will get our first look if he can still manage.
It’s just preseason but it’s important for the Jets starters on offense to show some flow tonight and that they can produce. The Jets offense was not great last year but there is no excuse for them not to be improved this season.
All eyes will be on Smith and the Jets offense to see if they can bring any light to New York in their first preseason game.
Eyes will be on the rookie Omar Cooper Jr. too as fans will be intrigued to see what he can do for New York’s passing game amid rumors that other wide receiver Isaiah Williams might just be beating him out for a starting position. Cooper Jr. was selected in the second round by the Jets so the hope is that he is a valuable asset to their offense.
On defense, we will get to see Minkah Fitzpatrick and Demario Davis take the field for the Jets as well as second overall pick David Bailey. Can Bailey make an instant impact for the pass rush?
New York’s defense on paper isn’t the best, especially with concerns to a young secondary.
Now, Tampa might not be playing their full starting offense tonight so it will be hard to judge the Jets starting defense but still you want to see fundamental play out of them.
Especially from Bailey, you can expect fans to be watching him every snap waiting to see if he can make that first explosive play of his career.
It’s the first preseason game of the year, the wins and losses don’t count yet but the goal is to see your team especially the starters when they are in play good football. I think the two most important things to watch tonight in the game is can Smith be accurate with the football, and move the offense down the field. The other one, can Bailey show everyone why the Jets took him second overall?
It’s a big year for the Jets and Glenn is most likely on the hot seat going into the year and it all kicks off tonight against Tampa Bay!
