It’s a miracle as the New York Jets have won two straight games as now they head into Thursday night football against divisional rival the New England Patriots.
New York is sitting at a record of 2-7 while New England comes in at 8-2. The Patriots are red hot on a seven game winning streak led by quarterback Drake Maye, who is having quite an impressive year two.
Maye comes into this game as one of the MVP front runners with a little over 2,500 yards passing with 19 touchdown passes, and he is completing around 72 percent of his passes.
Maye is shaping up to be a franchise superstar for New England, as by the looks of it the New England Patriots are back to being a Super Bowl contending team.
Head Coach Mike Vrabel has impressively turned this organization around in just one season. As for the Jets after starting winless in their first seven games, they’ve managed to defeat the Bengals and Browns in their last two games.
In their win against the Browns, Justin Fields only had 54 yards passing but through two touchdowns from the special teams unit, New York got the win. Unless they can score again through special teams, Fields will need to be much more productive if New York wants to pull off the massive upset.
The Patriots are 13-point favorites to win this game against the Jets. It would take an amazing performance out of New York to overcome what New England is bringing to the table right now.
The Jets defense still has not caused an interception this season and it would be a shock if their first of the season came against Maye. Their defense is going to have a tough task stopping New England’s offense who is hitting on all cylinders. With Maye playing at an MVP level, the passing game is striving while the rushing attack has been going solid.
Last game, rookie TreyVeyon Henderson got the start for New England in which he had 147 yards with two rushing touchdowns. New England has one of the better offenses in the league right now so the Jets defense will be in for a fight.
The Jets offense which has already been a struggle for most of the season will be without their best player in Garrett Wilson who is out injured on injured reserve for the next four games. However, we should see the debut of AD Mitchell who New York got a part of the Sauce Gardner trade. Will see if he can bring any light to what has been a dead passing game most of the year.
The Jets best shot on offense runs through Breece Hall, who survived the trade deadline. Hall is the Jets number one option both through the air and the ground. If New York wants any shot to put up points they will need to get the ball in Hall’s hands as much as possible. Hall has had a good season thus far for New York giving them roughly 74 yards-a-game on the ground.
The goal has to be simple for tonight: get the ball in Hall’s hands, and try to find quick timely passes to your weapons like Mason Taylor, John Metchie III, and Mitchell. New York has nothing to lose so you might as well see what you have in these offensive players without Wilson out there.
No one expects the Jets to win this game but it is a division rival on a short week. New York has played winnable football the last two games so maybe they have another upset in store. With the way New England is playing right now though, it will be a very challenging game for the Jets to pull off.
