Jordynn Dudley’s Rookie Campaign Ends with Season-Ending Injury

By David Macaulay-Smith

Gotham FC rookie forward Jordynn Dudley will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after suffering a foot fracture during training earlier this month, the club announced Monday.

Dudley, 21, has been placed on the season-ending injury list, bringing an abrupt end to a promising first professional season in which she emerged as an important contributor to Gotham’s attack.

The injury adds to Gotham’s growing list of absences, with defenders Kayla Duran and Emily Sonnett already on the season-ending injury list. Bruninha will also face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a torn ACL while on international duty with Brazil, adding to Gotham’s growing injury concerns.

Dudley finished the season with five goals and three assists in 26 appearances across all competitions, including a goal in Gotham’s 2-0 victory over the Kansas City Current in the NWSL Challenge Cup final. She also earned NWSL Rookie of the Month honors in April and September, establishing herself as one of the league’s standout first-year players.

Her first award came after an impressive April in which she recorded a goal and an assist in three appearances. Dudley scored her first professional goal just 46 seconds into Gotham’s April 29 victory over the Chicago Stars, giving the club an early lead.

She continued to develop throughout the season, with her strongest run coming in September. Dudley scored twice in Gotham’s 2-1 win over the North Carolina Courage on Sept. 19, including a stoppage-time winner that secured three points on the road. The performance marked the first brace of her professional career and helped earn her a second Rookie of the Month award.

Dudley’s emergence gave Gotham another productive option in the attacking third, and her performances put her in the conversation for NWSL Rookie of the Year. Her ability to contribute goals in her first professional season made her one of the club’s most encouraging young players.

“We’re disappointed for Jordynn after the outstanding rookie season she has had,” Yael Averbuch West, Gotham’s president of soccer operations, said in a club statement. “She made an impact all over the field and played an important role in our push for the NWSL Shield and strong finish to the 2026 campaign. We’ll support Jordynn throughout her recovery and do everything we can to help her return healthy for next season.”

Dudley’s injury comes just weeks after her two-goal performance against North Carolina earned her a second Rookie of the Month honor. With the playoffs approaching, Gotham will have to finish the season without a forward who had become an increasingly important part of its attack.
