Odell Beckham Jr. Returns as Giants Sign Trio of Veteran Receivers

By Jaiden Jordan

The New York Giants are executing a massive roster overhaul, officially signing veteran wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios in a single afternoon. The signings were first reported by NFL insiders, including Adam Schefter and Mike Garafolo.

While Smith-Schuster and Berrios bring fresh faces to the rotation, the headliner of the day features a historic homecoming. Over eight years after being dealt away in a blockbuster trade, the Giants former superstar, Odell Beckham Jr., is officially returning to the team that drafted him.

Beckham previously spent the first five seasons of his career with New York from 2014-2018. During his initial stint with the Giants he took the league by storm, earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (2014), three Pro Bowl selections (2014, 2015,2016), and two Second-Team All Pro nods (2015, 2016). Beckham made a massive name for himself, cementing his status as one of football’s biggest stars on and off the field.

Following his tenure with the Giants, Beckham experienced an up and down career. In 2019, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns where he spent two seasons battling injuries and had tensions with the team before ultimately being released back in 2021.

After becoming a free agent, Beckham signed a mid-season deal with the Los Angeles Rams on November 11, 2021.  His brief tenure in LA was highly impactful, helping guide the franchise to victory in Super Bowl LVI. In that championship game, Beckham caught two passes for 52 yards and scored the opening touchdown. He was arguably on his way to securing Super Bowl MVP, before devastatingly tearing his ACL in the second quarter. Despite the injury, the Rams went on to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20.

Beckham became a free agent in March 2022, while recovering from knee surgery. After spending an entire year away from football, he returned to limited roles with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 and the Miami Dolphins in 2024. Following his stint in Miami, Beckham remained unsigned throughout the 2025 season while serving a six-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.

A year later, reports of a potential reunion between Beckham and the Giants officially resurfaced in late March 2026. Beckham traveled to the NFL’s annual meetings in Arizona to talk with Giants head coach John Harbaugh and members of the front office.

The team eventually brought the veteran in for an individual workout and a physical on April 20. A month later, Beckham participated in a second group-style workout alongside free-agent receivers Braxton Berrios and JuJu Smith-Schuster. After completing on-field drills and passing his physical, the official news broke that the New York Giants were bringing him home.

While Beckham’s peak Pro-Bowl days are likely behind him due to age and past injuries, New York is banking on the newly signed trio to provide critical depth– especially with star wide receiver Malik Nabers currently recovering from a torn ACL.

As the Giants will look to improve upon their disappointing 4-13 finish last season, Beckham, Smith Schuster, and Berrios all get a fresh opportunity  to produce in the NFL. Beckham will look to provide a reliable target for his new quarterback Jaxson Dart, while reuniting with his former Ravens head coach, for the NFL 2026 season.
