OMG the Mets are advancing!

OMG is an acronym that has been synonymous with the Mets 2024 season. With the highs the lows and everything in between, the Mets continue to wow us.

A season that started off with a record of 0-5 turned itself around when Grimace threw out a first pitch that ignited a seven-game winning streak, followed by another low with a late season losing stretch, held on by the string that was an MVP caliber season from Francisco Lindor, and ending on a high note with the clinching of a spot in the postseason on the last possible day, a double-header day no less, and now a Polar Pete homerun that may have solidified his career in Queens to advance the Mets to the NLDS for the first time since 2015 when they lost in the World Series to the Kansas City Royals, who coincidentally have also advanced to the division series.

Mets end Brew Crew Season

On the bump for New York was Jose Quintana who was looking to bounce back from last week’s loss against Milwaukee. Quintana provided in the biggest game of the year, allowing only four hits and zero runs through six innings.

Unfortunate for the Mets, Brewers starting pitcher Tobias Myers was also lights out on the mound. Through five innings he allowed two hits and zero runs. Through six innings both teams were scoreless. Anticipation was high, waiting to see who would be the first to crack the scoreboard.

Milwaukee broke the tie in the bottom of the seventh. In back to back at bats, Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick hit solo home runs, quickly giving the Brewers a 2-0 lead.

The score still stood at 2-0 heading into the top of the ninth inning. With three outs left in their season, the Mets were once again looking for late game heroics. Up first was Lindor who worked the count and got walked. Mark Vientos came up and struck out. Brandon Nimmo hit in between the gap for a single. The winning run was now at the plate. Who else but Pete Alonso with a chance to change the momentum of the game. A chance to change all negative narratives surrounding him. Alonso saw the pitch he liked and crushed it, scoring the biggest home run of his career and putting the Mets up 3-2. The party didn’t stop there. Starling Marte brought Jesse Winker home with a single into right field, securing an insurance run for the blue and orange.

David Peterson came in to close for the Mets, and sealed the Game 3 victory. The game ended with a double play worked by Lindor and Alonso. The team erupted in celebration as yet another OMG moment was created for the 2024 Mets.
