The Philadelphia Flyers ended their five-game home stand on November 2nd. During the stretch at Xfinity Mobile Arena, the team faced the New York Islanders (SO 4-3), Pittsburgh Penguins (SO 3-2), Nashville Predators (W 4-1), Toronto Maple Leafs (L 2-5), and Calgary Flames (L 1-2). Out of ten possible points, the Flyers earned six. In their October games, the team had a .650 point percentage, the highest in the month of October for the franchise since 2007.
In the game against Nashville on October 30, Trevor Zegras showed out, earning two goals and one assist for a three-point night, earning himself the first star of the evening. Goaltender Dan Vladar had a .970 save percentage, allowing one out of 33 shots. Matvei Michkov earned third star of the night with two points, finally showing up after a rocky start to the season. The Flyers capitalized on their only power play opportunity of the night thanks to Zegras finding a pass from Cam York.
The November 1 game against the Maple Leafs was not a shining moment for the Flyers team. All but two of their 33 shots on goal were saved by Anthony Stolarz, although the team did improve on their total shots on goal from their last game, a positive. The Flyers held off Toronto’s power play attempts, but only managed to score once out of their six opportunities.
To end the home stand, the Flyers fought a close game against the Flames, but were unable to secure the win. Travis Konecny did earn the third star of the night, having the Flyers’ only goal. The team fell back to only 18 shots in the November 2 game. The special teams did well to avoid being scored on during the Flames’ two power play opportunities, but not to score on their power play.
Heading into Tuesday night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens, the Flyers sit at 20th in the league on the power play, but reign at first in the league on the penalty kill. Vladar is 18th on the goaltender list for the league, with a .924 save percentage and a 2.11 goals against average through seven games played on the season. Samuel Ersson sits at 47th, with a .867 save percentage and a 3.08 goals against average.
Zegras leads the Flyers with 13 points (4 G, 9 A). Sean Couturier (2 G, 7 A), Konecny (4 G, 4 A), Noah Cates (3 G, 5 A), and Tyson Foerster (3 G, 7 A) round out the top five points leaders for the Flyers.
The Philadelphia Flyers will face the Montreal Canadiens on November 4 at 7 p.m.
