President Trump Congratulates Winners at LIV Golf New York

By Thomas Tomesco, Jr.

BEDMINSTER, NJ– LIV Golf New York finished up Sunday afternoon at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster and the winners of the team and individual tournaments were greeted by a highly notable figure.

Before individual tournament champion Joaquin Niemann and the winning team of Crushers GC made their way to the podium to receive their trophies, they made a quick stop towards the clubhouse to go speak with President Donald Trump. The president, who owns the golf course, stuck around to congratulate the winners before heading back to Washington D.C.

“He just congratulated us and said that was fantastic golf, and I told him how tough his golf course is. I mean, I got my butt kicked this week, that’s for sure,” Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau said. “That was really all we talked about, and, you know, whenever you go to the properties, they’ve been great to us, and the hospitality’s amazing. They treat us well. All their staff’s amazing. So, you know, all positive things to say, and we just appreciated it and thanked him. Then he said great job and congratulations. And, you know, he was supportive of it, and then obviously supportive of Joaquin [Niemann] and how well he did on his golf course. He was really impressed with Joaquin.
That’s for sure.”

As the top group was getting ready to shoot at the 18th and final hole, LIV Golf officials suddenly called for a stoppage of play. The reason? Overhead coming in from the west was the president’s helicopter, known as Marine One, making a landing just a few hundred feet away onto a helipad off the 8th hole fairway. The typical loud and windy landing of a helicopter made it impossible to play through.

Opened in 2004, Trump National Golf Club Bedminster is a 7,600+ yard-course located in the farmlands of Somerset County. The course hosted the Women’s US Open in 2017 and has hosted LIV Golf three times since 2022. President Trump has been known to spend a lot of time at the course for a variety of reasons when not at the White House. He arrived Friday evening and spent the weekend before his grand exit at the conclusion of the tournament. There were plenty of times fans spotted Trump being escorted throughout the course including Sunday morning where he was seen riding a golf cart tee box to tee box with all-time great golfer Gary Player.

“It was really special to have Mr. President [Donald Trump] come in and and see us.” Individual winner and Torque GC champion Joaquin Niemann said. “He loves golf, he definitely loves it and he loves us as well. It’s very nice
the way that the whole family treats us, the players, you know the teams. There are many things that they have at the golf course, the facilities, the food, everything is amazing. So it just shows how much it matters for him to be out here, especially how busy he is. You know, just for me, it’s a lot of appreciation to him of just having his presence here.”

Due to LIV Golf’s future being up in the air, its uncertain whether they will return to Trump National Bedminster next year.
