GLASSBORO — Kean University men’s soccer fell 3-0 to third-ranked Rowan University in NJAC play Saturday night at the Rowan Soccer and Lacrosse Complex, as the Profs scored once in the first half before adding two goals after halftime.
Goalkeeper Juan Orozco returned to the starting lineup for the Cougars after serving a one-match suspension following a red card against Rutgers-Camden. Orozco made 11 saves against Rowan, which finished with 21 shots, including 15 on target.
The Profs honored nine seniors before kickoff and took the lead in the 29th minute. Darrin Doyle sent a ball into the box that Orozco initially touched, but Tanner Grozinski collected the rebound and finished into the open net to put Rowan ahead 1-0.
Kean managed two shots in the first half but could not find an equalizer, heading into the break trailing by one goal.
Rowan doubled its advantage just 57 seconds into the second half. DJ Mosley played a pass to Evan Vilaboy, who directed the ball to senior Christian McGillen. McGillen finished from close range to give the Profs a 2-0 lead.
McGillen then helped Rowan extend its advantage in the 62nd minute, delivering a corner kick that Greg Ferreira headed into the net at the far post. The goal was Ferreira’s first of the season and capped the scoring.
Kean finished with three shots, one on target, as Rowan goalkeeper Mike Moore made one save to help secure the clean sheet.
The loss dropped Kean to (2-7-5) overall and (0-4-2) in NJAC play. Rowan improved to (10-0-3) overall and (4-0-2) in conference competition, extending its unbeaten start to the season.
Kean will return home Wednesday, Oct. 21, to host Montclair State at 4 p.m. Rowan will travel to face Stockton at 7 p.m. the same day.
