This morning we’re highlighting an extraordinary accomplishment by a local New Jersey artist whose work is making waves across the global music landscape. Verona resident CHARU SURI, one of the very few Indian women in jazz, has just earned two GRAMMY nominations this year, one for her album SHAYAN in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category, and another for her work as co-producer and pianist on SOUNDS OF KUMBHA in the Best Global Music Album category.

Charu is a leading figure in the rise of Indian jazz fusion, blending ragas, chamber jazz, classical, and contemporary soundscapes to create a musical style that is entirely her own.
