Jersey Heritage Project

March 17, 2026

A new initiative is working to highlight the history, culture, and communities that make North Jersey unique, while also bringing new economic opportunities to the region.

The proposed North Jersey National Heritage Area would celebrate local history, support artists, and promote cultural tourism across the region. Supporters say it could also bring new federal funding, create jobs, and help shine a spotlight on communities that are often overlooked in traditional tourism promotion.

The effort is being led in part by the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation, which has been working for decades to improve quality of life across the region.

Joining us now is Leonardo Vazquez, Executive Director of the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation.
