Wildfires might be something many people associate with the West Coast, but they are also a growing concern here in the Northeast, including in New Jersey. A group of local high school students is working to raise awareness and help communities stay prepared.

Through their nonprofit NexGen STEM, they’ve launched a wildfire prevention and preparedness project as part of the SkillsUSA community service competition, distributing emergency kits, hosting safety workshops, and educating younger students about the causes of wildfires.

Joining us now are Jashith Gorrepati and Rohan Patel, high school students from Somerset County who are leading this initiative.
