Reach Out and Read

January 7, 2026

Two New Jersey state leaders are being recognized on a national stage for their work supporting early childhood literacy and pediatric care. State Senator Patrick Diegnan Jr. and his Chief of Staff Greg Tufaro have been named to the 2025 Reach Out and Read National Honor Roll, an award recognizing leaders who champion early literacy, caregiver–child connection, and equity in pediatric healthcare.

The recognition highlights their role in securing state funding to expand Reach Out and Read’s work across New Jersey, helping pediatric clinics, especially those serving vulnerable communities, provide books and literacy guidance during well-child visits.

Joining us this morning is Kim Byam, Executive Director of Reach Out and Read New Jersey and Delaware, to explain why this recognition matters and how the program is making an impact.
