‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ Brings the Pizza, Ooze, and 2 NJ Stars

The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” are back in “Mutant Mayhem” as just that- teenagers.  Voiced for the first time in “Turtle” history by a cast of teens. Leonardo is Nicolas Cantu,  Michelangelo is Shamon Brown Jr. , Donatello is Micah Abbey and Lacey Township native Brady Noon plays Raphael.

The reboot, courtesy in part to Seth Rogan in his role as co- producer, co-writer, and voice of BeBop, takes on a different twist to the 80’s classic and follows the “teen” aspect in the title to its core. The turtles just want to fit in with other kids their age. Their new friend, April O’Neil, played by Ayo Edebiri,  helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate made up of other mutants.

In addition to the teenage actors voicing the main parts, the cast is packed with big names like Jackie Chan as Splinter, Ice Cube as the villainous Superfly, John Cena as Rocksteady, and Passaic’s own Paul Rudd as the skateboard-loving lizard Mondo Gecko.

The animated film is made to look hand-drawn, in a similar fashion to other recent hit films that appeals to the younger audience but also throws in a bit of nostalgia that long-time fans will recognize and love.

The movie is rated PG and is in theaters now.
