WWE Visits City of Brotherly Love on the Road to Wrestlemania

By Sean Grayson

Just 48 hours after chaos erupted at the Royal Rumble in Riyadh, WWE stormed into Philadelphia to officially launch the Road to WrestleMania, and there may not be a more fitting city to light the fuse.

Philadelphia is wrestling territory in its purest form. The birthplace of ECW. A city that has hosted some of WWE’s most unforgettable moments. The same city where Cody Rhodes finally finished his story at WrestleMania 40 by ending Roman Reigns’ historic reign. Philly crowds do not politely react. They tell you exactly how they feel. They cheer villains, boo heroes, and if they do not like what they see, they will make sure everyone knows it.

WrestleMania season starting here meant one thing. Anything could happen.

And it did.

Bron Breakker Erupts Before the Show Even Begins

Before cameras officially rolled, tensions from the Royal Rumble exploded. Bron Breakker stormed out furious, destroying the commentary desk and demanding answers after the chaos that unfolded at the Rumble.

Paul Heyman attempted to calm things down but was met with thunderous boos. Breakker demanded Adam Pearce come to the ring, but the situation spiraled when LA Knight blindsided members of The Vision with a steel chair, leaving bodies scattered and Breakker livid that his crew had been humiliated.

The Road to WrestleMania had barely begun, and already the temperature was rising.

Je’Von Evans Flies but Momentum Stalls

Je’Von Evans opened the night against El Grande Americano, bringing his trademark speed and aerial offense to a crowd ready to explode. Evans dazzled early, soaring through the air and keeping the pace fast.

But commercial interruptions drained some of the energy, and the match struggled to maintain rhythm. The ending came when the original El Grande Americano appeared, distracting the imposter and allowing Evans to snatch the win.

Solid action, but many in the crowd seemed ready for the next big moment.

Gunther Becomes Public Enemy Number One

The arena erupted when AJ Styles’ music hit, only for Gunther, the man who forced Styles into retirement at the Rumble, to walk out instead.

The boos were deafening.

Dragon Lee tried to stand up to the Ring General, but Gunther brutally shut him down, eventually putting him to sleep after a vicious bell shot before officials intervened. The message was clear. Gunther destroys legends, and he feels no remorse doing it.

The hatred he generated in Philly was nuclear, and that is exactly how a top villain should feel.

Authority Tensions Boil Backstage

Backstage chaos continued as Paul Heyman tried to secure Bron Breakker versus LA Knight, only for Adam Pearce to shut the request down. Pearce continues to insert himself into major situations, and fans are beginning to question how long his authority can stand before someone knocks him down a peg.

Breakker’s frustration continued to grow, and it feels like a blowup is inevitable.

Oba Femi Makes a Statement

Oba Femi bulldozed the War Raiders in dominant fashion, turning what was once one of wrestling’s most feared tag teams into little more than stepping stones. A powerful reminder that in wrestling, yesterday’s champions can quickly become today’s victims.

Bella Twins Return Brings the House Down

The mood shifted when Nikki Bella returned, followed by Brie Bella to a thunderous ovation. Fans stood, cheered, and some even wiped away tears as the Bella Twins reunited in a WrestleMania season surprise.

Their return seems destined to shake up the women’s tag team division, and the reaction proved the twins still command star power.

LA Knight Strikes Again During Penta and Bronson Reed Battle

Penta and Bronson Reed battled in a match repeatedly slowed by commercial breaks, preventing sustained momentum.

Reed appeared to have control until LA Knight struck again, taking Reed out at ringside and allowing Penta to score a count out victory. The final moments brought the crowd back to life, but the interruptions once again disrupted the flow.

Liv Morgan Receives Hero’s Welcome

Fresh off winning the 2026 Women’s Royal Rumble, New Jersey native Liv Morgan received a massive ovation. Joined by Dominik Mysterio and Raquel Rodriguez, Morgan teased her WrestleMania plans but stopped short of naming her opponent.

Instead, Rodriguez immediately stepped into a brutal Philly Street Fight against champion Stephanie Vaquer.

Street Fight Chaos Delivers

The street fight delivered pure mayhem. Tables shattered, chairs flew, and kendo sticks cracked as both women punished each other inside and outside the ring.

After multiple twists, interference, and dramatic near falls, Vaquer retained her championship with a breathtaking corkscrew splash. But the chaos was far from over. Liv Morgan attacked Vaquer after the match and held the championship high, sending a clear warning that WrestleMania gold may soon be hers.

Roman Reigns and CM Punk Electrify Philly and Save the Night

Then came the moment everyone was waiting for.

Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns entered to a thunderous reaction, reflecting on his complicated history with Philadelphia before asking the crowd which champion he should challenge at WrestleMania.

The response was instant.

CM Punk.

Moments later Punk walked out, and the building exploded. The energy shifted instantly as two icons stood face to face, the tension thick enough to feel through the screen.

Both men delivered masterful promos before Reigns made his decision official.

Roman Reigns versus CM Punk will headline WrestleMania.

Just like that, the Road to WrestleMania snapped into focus.

After an uneven night, the closing segment detonated like a bomb, reminding everyone exactly why WrestleMania season feels different.

The road is set.

The stakes are rising.

And WrestleMania season has officially begun.
