Gotham FC has acquired veteran midfielder Savannah McCaskill from San Diego Wave FC in exchange for $175,000 in intraleague transfer funds, the club announced on Friday.
The move brings McCaskill back to Gotham, where she began her professional career in 2018 after being selected second overall by then Sky Blue FC in the NWSL Dispersal Draft. Now 29 years old, McCaskill returns to the reigning NWSL and continental champions after seven seasons in the league and stops in San Diego, Los Angeles, Louisville and Chicago.
“I am excited to be joining Gotham FC,” McCaskill said. “I’ve been impressed by what the club has been able to do both on and off the field in recent years. Making this move at this stage of my career is about wanting to continue to unlock new levels to my game and help contribute to the competitive and goal-oriented environment that Yael Averbuch West, Juan Carlos Amorós and the players at Gotham have created. I look forward to getting to work and seeing what we can accomplish this year.”
McCaskill spent the past two seasons with San Diego, where she made 45 appearances across all NWSL competitions. During the 2025 regular season, she appeared in 21 matches and started all but one before an injury sidelined her for the remainder of the season and the playoffs.
Before joining the Wave, McCaskill played two seasons with Angel City FC and produced back to back productive campaigns. She scored seven goals during the 2022 regular season and followed with four goals and three assists in 2023, earning NWSL Second XI honors.
McCaskill has also played for Racing Louisville FC and Chicago Stars FC. During her first stint with Gotham, she totaled three goals and four assists in 26 matches. Overall, she has made 180 appearances across all NWSL competitions, including 149 regular season matches, scoring 24 goals and recording 16 assists.
At the international level, McCaskill has earned multiple appearances with the United States Women’s National Team and was part of the squad that won the 2018 SheBelieves Cup, appearing in all three matches of the tournament. She has also represented the United States at the U-23 level.
“Savannah brings experience and a competitive edge that has defined her career,” Gotham general manager and head of soccer operations Yael Averbuch West said. “Her familiarity with the league and our environment will be a valuable asset, and we are delighted to welcome her back to the club.”
McCaskill adds another veteran option to a Gotham midfield that played a key role in the club’s championship run last season, as the team continues to build toward the upcoming NWSL campaign.
