Can Google’s AI data center power the grid without sticking ratepayers?

Brand and digital strategist Fisher (fisher.media) breaks down Google and Xcel Energy’s proposed ~780-megawatt data center in Pine Island, Minnesota: more wind, solar, and battery capacity than the facility itself needs, with Xcel saying the added power would serve local customers and push a cleaner grid. Public opposition to local data centers remains high over energy use and cost; the agreement still needs Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approval.
