By Gerald D'Ambra

An arson task force is investigating after a 6-year-old girl died in a fire at a Bayonne home. The Hudson County Prosecutor, Esther Suarez, has disclosed that an investigation is underway into the deadly fire. The incident, which occurred late Sunday at 438 Avenue C, prompted a response from the Bayonne Fire Department just after 11:40 p.m. Firefighters encountered significant fire and smoke throughout the two-story structure. Tragically, during efforts to extinguish the blaze, responders discovered an unconscious child, later identified as 6-year-old Saniya Felton of Bayonne, on the building’s second floor. Despite being rushed to Bayonne Medical Center, she succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday.

Authorities from the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Bayonne Fire Department are leading the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. At present, there are no indications of foul play.
