The (2-2) Denver Broncos traveled to Philadelphia to take on the (4-0) Eagles. Coming into this, the Broncos beat the Bengals 28-3 on Monday Night Football. The Eagles continued their perfect start as they held off the Buccaneers 31-25. The Broncos are a defensive juggernaut this season. They are top 10 in almost all defensive categories. The Eagles so far this season are continuing to show their championship pedigree as they remain undefeated by somehow finding ways to win.
In the first quarter it was the Broncos and Eagles each who made field goals to have the score at the end of the first be 3-3. In the second quarter the offense would start to pick up for Philadelphia. (RB) Saquon Barkley had back to back rushes for four yards each. Jalen Hurts threw an 11-yard pass to (WR) A.J. Brown. Hurts would get sacked the next possession as this would become a routine for the Broncos throughout this game. On 3rd-and-17, (QB) Jalen Hurts threw a 52-yard bomb to (WR) Devonta Smith. After a pass interference, Hurts found (TE) Dallas Goedert in the endzone for the touchdown. The field goal was scored by (K) Jake Elliot as the Eagles were up 10-3, at the end of the first half
In the third quarter much of the same happened. In the opening drive of the second half Hurts threw another bomb this time for 47 yards to Saquon Barkley into the endzone. The Eagles were up after the field goal kick 17-3. The script would completely change from here. Both teams would punt for the rest of the quarter, but in the fourth the Broncos picked it up.
The Broncos initiated a 10-play, 64-yard drive starting from the end of the third quarter captivated by a rushing touchdown for (RB) J.K Dobbins. The Eagles responded with a quick three-and-out. (QB) Bo Nix threw an 18 yard pass to (TE) Evan Engram and then an 14-yard pass to (WR) Courtland Sutton. Nix would throw a 34-yard dime to Sutton for 34 yards. At the Philadelphia 11, Nix fired a pass to Engram for the touchdown. The Broncos elected to go for two and they converted where Bo nix found (WR) Trent Franklin. With 15 unanswered points, Denver were in front 18-17. The Eagles would punt again and (K) Wil Lutz would make a field goal for the Broncos to extend the lead. Philly would try to pull off a miracle but couldn’t capitalize as the Broncos won 21-17.
The offense for the Eagles looked different as Saquon Barkley only had 6 rushing attempts. So far this season the Eagles don’t look like their championship selves on the offensive end; it could be due to injuries in the offensive line and a new offensive coordinator. Jalen Hurts got sacked six times, the most in his career in a game. The Broncos defense led the way in the second half and credit had to be given out to Nick Bonitto. He had 2.5 sacks this game and leads the league in sacks with 7. Bo Nix led the way down the stretch in the fourth quarter as well.
The Broncos next travel to London to take on the New York Jets on Sunday October 12 at 9:30 a.m. ET. The Eagles will travel to Metlife Stadium to face their division rival New York Giants for Thursday Night Football at 8:15 pm. The final was the Broncos won 21-17.
