David Smith was a mere five of seven for 45 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions passing; however, the Butler quarterback carried the ball 24 times for 213 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs past Kinnelon, 28-14, to repeat as NJSIAA Football North Jersey, Section 1, Group 1 champions.

The Colts gave Butler everything they could handle, with Matthew Siciliano and Wyatt Sisco leading the way.  Kinnelon’s night was highlighted by two fourth-and-long conversions, a fourth-and-14, and a fourth-and-eight on a first-half scoring drive that gave the Colts the initial lead.

However, Smith, along with timely defensive stops that included an interception and fumble recovery from Nick Parkinson, ultimately proved to be the difference as the Bulldogs move on to the NJSIAA group semifinals, where they will face Cedar Grove, a 37-13 winner over New Providence in the N2G1 Championship.  With the loss, Kinnelon finishes their season with a 10-2 record.
