Football season is back in the City of Brotherly Love as the Philadelphia Eagles host the Washington Commanders in an NFC East division rivalry.
Philadelphia finished last season 11-6 and won their division for the second straight season. They eventually lost in the Wild Card game to the San Francisco 49ers and indeed any chances of them winning back-to-back Super Bowls. It was a very tumultuous season for the Eagles. Offensively they were very inconsistent and that caused a multitude of issues. Kevin Patullo was the offensive coordinator last season and there was a lot of noise throughout the season due to Philly’s struggles.
AJ Brown was repeatedly upset with his lack of touches and his relationship with Jalen Hurts began to deteriorate. Philadelphia fired Patullo after a disappointing season. Philly also traded AJ Brown to the Patriots. Sean Mannion was hired to be the new offensive coordinator for the Eagles.
General manager Howie Roseman went to work as usual during the offseason and made key draft day picks including a draft steal in Makai Lemon at the 20th pick. DeVonta Smith will serve as the number one receiver. Hurts appears to be hungry and the Eagles look to have a bounce back season.
Washington finished last season 5-12, missed the playoffs, and finished third in the division. A myriad of injuries took place last season which included Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin. Daniels played only seven games last season and McLaurin only played 10. Defensively they were one of the worst teams in the league in that category. Washington took linebacker Sonny Styles with the seventh pick in the draft in a defensive-driven draft. Styles was First-Team All-America and an All-Big Ten selection.
The Commanders made a late signing to bring in Stefon Diggs. Washington looks to bounce back, stay healthy, and capture the same magic they had during their NFC Championship run in 2024.
The Eagles face the Commanders Sunday, September 13 at 4:25 pm in Philadelphia. It’s a new year for both teams and they look to start off the season strong.
