FEMA – Federal Emergency Management Agency – will have a test alert sent out nationwide today, beginning at 2:20pm in order to test the Emergency Alert System. It is a requirement to test the system once every three years. You might remember the last test, which was back in 2021.“Beginning at approximately 2:20 p.m., cell towers will broadcast the signal for approximately 30 minutes. During this time, WEA-compatible wireless phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower, and whose wireless provider participates in WEA, should be capable of receiving the test message” said a press release from FEMA.If a real emergency presents itself during the time of the alerts’ test, it will be postponed and scheduled for next week. Besides receiving the message on cell phone devices, it will also be sent to televisions and radio channels.
