The Philadelphia Eagles traveled cross country to take on the Los Angeles Chargers for Monday Night Football. The Eagles coming into this game suffered a loss to the Bears at home on Black Friday. The Chargers came off a 31-14 win at home against their division rival Raiders.
The Eagles started their opening drive with a punt. On 3rd & 7 Justin Herbert threw a 60-yard short pass to Kiman Vidal. Omarion Hampton returned from the IR and ran for 11 yards. Hebert then threw a pass four yards to Hampton for the touchdown. Cameron Dicker made the field goal for the Chargers to make it a 7-0 lead. The Eagles would settle for the field goal next possession as Jake Elliott made it to cut the Chargers lead from 7-3. The Chargers had a quick three and out to end the 1st quarter. The Chargers were up 7-3.
At the beginning of the second quarter both teams had a quick three and out and punted. The Eagles had possession as Hurts threw a pass to Dallas Goedert for 16 yards and connected to A.J Brown for 22 yards. On 3rd and 2 it was a wonky possession as Hurts threw a pick to Da’Shawn Hand and he fumbled as the ball was punched out by Will Shipley. Hurts then picked up the ball and lost it and then Troy Dye recovered it for the Chargers. Justin Herbert would throw an 18-yard pass to Tre Harris. Herbert would get sacked by Jalyx Hunt and the Chargers were forced to a field goal.
Cameron Dicker made a 45-yard field goal to make it a 10-3 lead. Jalen Hurts threw a short pass intended for Devonta Smith and it was picked off by Donte Jackson. Herbert would get sacked by Nakobe Dean and would fumble the ball as it was recovered by Byron Young. The Eagles would elect for a field goal as Jake Elliott made the field goal to cut the lead to 6-10. Justin Herbert threw a pick to Adoree Jackson as the pass was intended for Oronde Gadsen. Jake Elliott would try to make it a one point game but missed the 48-yard field goal. The Chargers led the Eagles 10-6 going into halftime.
In the 3rd quarter Justin Herbert had a key 15-yard run on 3rd down. The Chargers drive would end as Dicker made the field goal to make it a 13-6 game. Hurts would throw a deep pass to A.J Brown for 26 yards. Jake Elliott would respond again with a field goal to make it 13-9 lead for the Chargers. Los Angeles would punt away and it would be the end of the third quarter. On 3rd and 1 in the beginning of the fourth, Saquon Barkley had a moment we haven’t seen much all season as he ran for 52 yards up the middle for the touchdown. Elliott made the extra point as the Eagles had the lead 16-13.
The Chargers would punt next possession and Jalen Hurts threw another pick to Cam Hart of the Chargers. Cameron Dicker made the field goal to make this a tie game at 16-16. Both teams would punt on their next two possessions. Approaching the two minute warning Hurts found A.J Brown for 19 yards. Philly would settle for a 44-yard field goal to take the lead 19-16. Time was winding down as Cameron Dicker tied the game with another made field goal to force overtime. Herbert and Hampton would have key runs to get into Eagles territory. On 4th and 6, Cameron Dicker made a 54-yard field goal to take the lead. On 3rd and 16, Jalen Hurts found Devonta Smith for a 28-yard gain to keep the drive alive. Hurts found Dallas Goedert for 16 yards. Hurts would throw a pass intended for Jahan Dotson as the pass was tipped and picked off by Tony Jefferson to seal the win for the Chargers.
This was a very defensive minded game as both Herbert and Hurts didn’t play well. Hurts threw a career high in interceptions with four. A.J Brown had another 100-yard receiving game as he’s been on a tear the past three games. Saquon Barkley had his second game of 100 rushing yards on the season. The Chargers next play against the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday at home, while the Eagles next play against the Las Vegas Raiders at home this Sunday. The Chargers win 22-19 against the Eagles as they lose their third game in a row.
