New Jersey natives Elliot Cadeau and Yaxel Lendeborg lead Michigan to Sweet 16

By Michael Acevedo-Feldman

The Michigan Wolverines have been making a surge in the postseason with two standouts from the Garden State. New Jersey Natives Elliot Cadeau and Yaxel Lendeborg played major roles in the No. 1 seed’s road back to the Sweet 16. The Michigan Wolverines got the win over Saint Louis dominantly, 95-72.

Yaxel Lendeborg, a Pennsauken native and the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year, was the star of the night. Lendeborg dominated all aspects of the game offensively and on the glass. He finished with 25 points and 6 rebounds, leading all players in the game in points. Lendeborg, who transferred from UAB, has been proving that he is one of the most impactful transfers in the country this season.

The Bergen Catholic standout and West Orange native Elliot Cadeau had 12 points and 8 assists. Cadeau was the floor general for the Wolverines as he’s been all season. He also recorded 3 triples. That area of his game has really improved since he transferred from North Carolina at the end of his sophomore season. His transfer to Michigan has proven to be the right choice as they chase a National Championship. Cadeau has become the seventh player in Michigan Wolverine history to record 200+ assists in a single season. He has also proven that he is one of the best playmakers in the country.

The Michigan Wolverines shot 55.7 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from three-point range, showcasing all the firepower this team holds. This victory marks Michigan’s second straight Sweet 16 appearance.

The Wolverines now travel to Chicago, where they will play the Alabama Crimson Tide. With the “Jersey Boys” and all the firepower on the offensive side of the ball for Michigan, I wouldn’t be surprised for them to land in the Final Four.
