BOSTON, MASS. – The New York Knicks are victorious again! The Knicks took game two on the road against the Boston Celtics to take the commanding two-game lead as they will come home for games three and four.
The Knicks took this game in a similar fashion as they did game one, and it was a fun one to watch. The Knicks dug themselves a hole in game two, and were down by as much as 20 points again with a few minutes left to go in the third quarter. The Knicks buckled down, however, and went on run to end the quarter to to trim Boston’s lead to 12 points.
In the fourth quarter it was all about defense for the Knicks. New York was able to hold Boston to only 17 points in the frame and down the stretch the Celtics did not score for five minutes at one point.
“People always talk about offensive runs, I think you go on defensive runs, as well”, said Coach Tom Thibodeau.
Also in the fourth, the Knicks got help offensively with 14 points from Mikal Bridges and nine points from Jalen Brunson including the go-ahead free throws late in the game.
“We’ve been here before,” said Bridges when describing the team’s resilient mindset in this game. In true Knicks fashion, it was Bridges again with the big defensive stop on Jayson Tatum as time was expiring to give the Knicks another one-point win against the Celtics.
Besides Bridges and Brunson, New York enjoyed major contributions from Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart. Towns was a monster on the glass, grabbing 17 rebounds while also scoring 21 points. On the other hand, Hart was able to score 23 points to lead all scorers on the night.
The Knicks will enjoy their 91-90 and two game lead, but it is not over yet. The Knicks will be back home for game three on Saturday as they have the defending champs’ backs against the wall. In a series that a lot of people were writing off the Knicks, they have done a great job at keeping their focus and winning these games to put themselves in a position to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
