The new season of the National Hockey League is less than two months away. Teams are planning their goals and strategies going into the season. The New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, and the Philadelphia Flyers are looking at one specific goal for the upcoming season.
New Jersey Devils: Control
The New Jersey Devils need to go into this season with control. Specifically controlling the rotation of players during a game. Last season, what cost the Devils was their heavy reliance on Jack Hughes, who was overworked after the Winter Olympics. The Devils need to utilize their roster so Hughes does not get burned out.
New York Islanders: Consistency
The New York Islanders need to go into this season aiming for consistency. The Islanders ended the season sixth in the Metropolitan Division. The Islanders looked solid at the beginning of the season, but when the pressure of the playoffs increased. The Islanders would see their game play go down. If the Islanders want a chance at the playoffs, they need to get consistent before it is too late.
New York Rangers: Redemption
The New York Rangers need to have a redemption season. After a huge disappointment last season, the Blueshirts are going in fighting. The Rangers have all of the tools they need to make a comeback happen. The team has to use the players they acquired and picked during the offseason to their advantage.
Philadelphia Flyers: Dominant
The Philadelphia Flyers need to go into the season dominant. After being knocked out in the second round of this past year’s playoffs. The fire is fueled for the Flyers. They dominated the Metropolitan Division for the majority of the 2025-26 season. Dominance is not a problem for the Flyers.
As the Season Approaches
These words and mindsets should set the Devils, Islanders, Rangers, and Flyers up for success in this upcoming season. Two months may seem like a long time but in hockey, opening night will be knocking on the door soon.
