The Brick Memorial Mustangs and the Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs played at the Mustangs’ home field in Brick. In a battle down the shore, Rumson came out on top with a final score of 35-7. Both teams battled the best that they could, but Rumson continues to go undefeated so far this season. They went undefeated in both of their beginning-of-the-season games.
The Bulldogs had a huge first half that set the tone for this game. RFH scored 14 points in the first half, shutting out the Mustangs in the opening half of play. Brick Memorial struggled all the way around during their gameplay, while RFH pushed their way through during this game.
The Bulldogs took the ball away from the Mustangs on multiple segments. During the first half, Brick Memorial also threw a pick-six that was caught by #20 Ryder Izzo, allowing Rumson to take the lead, highlighting the first half of this game.
The Mustangs did not get on board until the second half when they finally scored. Brick Memorial’s quarterback Tyler Pierce completed a 60-yard pass to the Mustangs’ running back Nazeer Whittaker for their first and only touchdown of the game.
In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs quarterback Pierce passed the ball once again. This pass resulted in another interception caught by Izzo once again, and he was able to return the ball for a 65-yard touchdown, putting the game to an end for any hope for the Mustangs to have at all.
Rumson-Fair Haven had a great night with their defense. In total, during this game, they had three fumble recoveries, while Brick Memorial struggled to move the ball down the field when their offensive line was on the field.
Both teams will return to the field on Friday Night in Week Three to take on other teams in their division. Rumson-Fair Haven remains undefeated and will most likely keep it up in their games that will follow over the course of the next several weeks.
