Only about a third into their season, the Somerset Patriots have held some impressive statistics leading into their upcoming series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. They currently stand in fourth place in the Northeast Double-A Eastern League standings, with a record of 17-21. After going 3-2 in this past week’s series against the fifth-place team, the Portland Sea Dogs, they look to make improvements this upcoming week.
Collectively, the team holds some impressive statistics. In the Eastern League, they have the most home runs with 38 this season. Additionally, they have the second most Triples with 68, sticking shortly behind Erie Seawolves with 70. With 270 hits, the team has earned an impressive 161 runs, placing them fifth in regards to this statistic. With pitching, the team has 360 combined strikeouts, and 183 runs allowed.
Individually, there have been some key components and individuals that have contributed to the team’s success so far this season. Currently tied leading the team in both runs (20) and home runs (9) Rafael Flores and Spencer Jones have been leaders on the field. Not just in runs, Rafael Flores has the highest batting average of .304, and the most hits with 45. Additionally, Dylan Jasso has 20 runs scored, seven home runs, 38 hits, and is only two runs away from hitting a career total of 100.
The team has rotated their starting pitcher position between four talented individuals, Cam Schlittler, Trent Sellers, Brendan Beck and Bailey Dees. They have all pitched a combined average of about 33 innings this season, while Sellers currently holds the lowest Batting Average Against of .165, and is tied with Schlittler with 44 strikeouts. Despite this, Beck leads the group with only six runs allowed. Dees also holds an impressive statistic, the 6-foot-8 Pitcher has a career number of 334 strikeouts, 37 of those being earned this season alone.
As a whole, the team is doing well statistically, still with a lot of season left to go. Currently holding a win percentage of .447, their upcoming series against the Fisher Cats could change it quickly. The team will be spending this next week away in New Hampshire, and faces them for the first matchup of the series at approx. 5:35 pm tomorrow.
