Children’s books can be powerful tools, helping young readers understand themselves, build empathy, and feel less alone when facing challenges.

Our next guest turned her family’s very personal journey into a story meant to inspire courage and compassion. Lauren Luna-Patire, a mother and school administrator, recently published her first children’s book, Colorful Casts and Courage, inspired by her six-year-old daughter Laney, who lives with Emery-Dreifuss Muscular Dystrophy.

Through the book, Lauren hopes to help children better understand what it means to live with medical differences, while also offering encouragement to families navigating similar experiences.
