CPR Importance

April 23, 2026

It’s a simple skill that can mean the difference between life and death and yet, many people still don’t know how to do it. CPR has the power to double or even triple someone’s chance of survival, especially considering that nearly 70% of cardiac arrests happen outside of a hospital, where immediate help isn’t always available.

For one New Jersey family, that reality became all too real, and ultimately lifesaving. After a sudden medical emergency, one young man survived thanks to prolonged CPR and quick action, a moment that changed his life and inspired a mission to help others be prepared.

Now, they’re working with the American Heart Association to raise awareness and empower more people to learn this critical skill. Joining us now is Gina Gilmore, along with her son Kyle Hewlett, to share their story.
