From Newsroom to Nursery Duty

September 18, 2025

These days, the idea of “having it all” often means balancing career, family, and a sense of purpose, and our next guest is doing just that in a truly heartwarming way. Steve McCarthy, an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and journalism professor at Montclair State University, has found a beautiful rhythm between professional life and personal legacy. As a new grandparent, Steve works remotely one day a week to care for his infant grandson, Ollie, creating not only a cost-saving solution for his daughter but also a powerful multigenerational bond rooted in love, storytelling, and even Brooklyn history. He joins us now to share what this experience has meant to him and how it’s reshaped his view of family, work, and time.
