Groundbreaking New “Supermicrosurgery”

November 6, 2025

For nearly 30 years, Nora Ambros lived with the painful effects of lymphedema, a condition that often follows breast cancer treatment and can dramatically affect quality of life. But now, thanks to a groundbreaking new robotic procedure at Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center, Nora’s decades-long struggle has finally turned a corner.

The hospital recently became the first in New Jersey to use the Symani® Surgical System, a new form of “supermicrosurgery’ that allows surgeons to perform delicate lymphatic repairs with a level of precision once thought impossible.

Joining us now are Nora Ambros, breast cancer survivor and the first patient in the state to undergo this procedure, and Dr. Richard M. Winters, Chair of Plastic Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, who’s helping to bring this life-changing technology to patients across New Jersey.
