On Tuesday, Hackensack City Council will vote on whether to dedicate a portion of Second Street in honor of Gordon Whiting. Known affectionately as Scooter, Whiting was the head coach of the high school football team and passed away last month, at the age of 58.

The Manchester Township Police Department recently swore in Patrolman William Kavanagh. Kavanagh is a graduate of the Ocean County Police Academy and previously worked with the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department.

Dr. James McPherson, director of Thoracic Surgery at Capital Health and co-director of its Lung Center of Excellence, was recently honored at Friendship Baptist Church in Trenton, for his contributions to lung cancer education and prevention.

University of Michigan basketball star and West Orange native Elliot Cadeau was presented with a Key to Essex County by Executive Joe DiVincenzo. Cadeau’s team won the NC double A championship this year, and he was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player.
