South Orange and Maplewood Community Coalition on Race
Earlier this week, communities across New Jersey gathered to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through reflection, remembrance, and action.
In South Orange and Maplewood, that work is led by the South Orange and Maplewood Community Coalition on Race, a nationally recognized grassroots nonprofit focused on racial integration and inclusion in suburban communities. Founded in 1997, the Coalition is approaching its 30th anniversary, continuing decades of efforts to build what Dr. King called the Beloved Community.
Joining us this morning are Nancy Gagnier, Executive Director of the Community Coalition on Race, and Anita Gundanna, Chair of the Coalition’s Board, here to reflect on this week’s observances and what comes next for the community.
