The NFL season kicked off on Thursday night between two all-time rivals as the Cowboys faced the Eagles. The Eagles are the reigning defending Super-Bowl champions and the Cowboys coming off a week after trading their franchise player in Micah Parsons.
Just six seconds into the game, Eagles Defensive Tackle Jalen Carter and Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott got into it as Dak Prescott spit on the ground while Jalen Carter spat on Dak Prescott and was ejected from the game. A furious storm of boos came down from the Eagles crowd as their best defensive player left the game. An obvious horrible act and we will see if a suspension or fine gets put in place.
In the first half there were a lot of scuffles and constant penalties throughout the first half and also the game as well. There were a combined 13 penalties between both teams. After the ejection of Jalen Carter. The Cowboys drilled down the field as Cowboys running back Javonte Williams scored his first rushing touchdown as a Cowboy. Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts would respond with his own rushing touchdown as it is now tied at 7-7. Javonte Williams and Jalen Hurts would trade touchdowns again resulting in a 14-14 game.
Brandon Aubrey, Cowboys kicker, knocked in a field goal from 41 yards which gave the cowboys the lead. The Eagles would respond as Eagles Running back and offensive player of the year last season Saquon Barkley in the shotgun rushed in for the touchdown. Aubrey kicked in a field goal which would be the last cowboy point for the rest of the game as the first half ended with a score of 21-20 in favor of the Eagles.
The second half would be the complete opposite as it was a defensive battle. In the opening drive of the second half at 2nd and 10 Jalen Hurts is sacked by Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland. Hurts throws to Eagles wideout Jahan Dotson for a 4-yard gain. Eagles kicker Jake Elliot then kicked a 58-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 24-20 lead. Former Eagles running back and current cowboys running back Miles Sanders bursted for a 49-yard run. Miles Sanders would later fumble the ball as it would be recovered by Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.
The game would be temporarily suspended due to weather issues. Lightning was sighted and the game would be on pause for an hour as fans were patiently waiting for the game to come back on.
The next few drives for both teams would result in punts. At the end of the game the Cowboys had a chance to extend the drive on 4th and 3. Dak fired a pass to cowboys receiver Cedee Lamb but he dropped it. Cedee dropped the ball four times this game as the Eagles would hold on to win 24-20.
The Cowboys will return home next week as they play their division rival New York Giants. The Eagles will travel to Arrowhead Stadium to play the Chiefs in a Super Bowl LIX rematch.
