Gotham FC have signed Norwegian forward Guro Reiten from Chelsea FC.
Reiten, 31, joins Gotham on loan through the July conclusion of her contract with Chelsea. She has agreed to a free-agent deal with Gotham through the 2029 season once the loan expires.
The winger arrives with one of the most decorated résumés in European women’s soccer, having won 13 trophies during a six-and-a-half-year spell with Chelsea.
“I’m really excited to join Gotham FC and grateful for the opportunity to be part of this club,” Reiten said. “Gotham has built something special over the past few years, and there’s clear ambition here. I’m looking forward to working hard, learning and doing everything I can to help the team succeed.”
“Guro is a player of exceptional quality who has consistently performed at the highest levels of the game,” said Yael Averbuch West, Gotham FC’s general manager and head of soccer operations. “Her experience competing for major trophies with Chelsea and her impact with the Norwegian national team will bring valuable leadership and attacking creativity to our squad. We’re excited to welcome her to Gotham.”
Reiten joined Chelsea in 2019 from Norwegian club LSK Kvinner and quickly established herself as a key contributor. She scored seven goals in her debut season in England and earned a nomination for the Women’s Super League Player of the Year award.
Across all competitions, Reiten recorded 59 goals and 44 assists in 207 appearances for Chelsea. During that span, the club won six Women’s Super League titles, four Women’s FA Cups and three Women’s League Cups, cementing one of the most dominant stretches in the club’s history.
Her most productive campaign came in 2022-23 when she scored 13 goals as Chelsea captured a league and FA Cup double and advanced to the semifinals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. She later surpassed the 50-goal mark for the club and finished the 2024-25 season with 12 goals as Chelsea secured another domestic treble.
Known for her creativity, vision and set-piece delivery, Reiten has produced double-digit goal contributions in multiple seasons, including 10 goals in 24 appearances last season. She is a two-time selection to the Professional Footballers’ Association Team of the Year and has been included in The Guardian’s list of the world’s 100 best women’s footballers for four consecutive years.
On the international stage, Reiten has been a fixture for the Norway women’s national team for more than a decade. She has scored 21 goals in 108 appearances and has represented Norway in multiple UEFA Women’s European Championships and FIFA Women’s World Cups.
Before moving to England, Reiten starred in Norway’s Toppserien with LSK Kvinner, where she won multiple league titles and was named the league’s Player of the Year in 2018 after finishing as its top scorer.
Reiten’s arrival represents one of the most significant signings in club history and adds another world-class attacker to Gotham’s roster. With a proven record of success in Europe’s top competitions and more than a decade of international experience, the Norwegian winger gives Gotham an elite playmaker as the club looks to defend its NWSL title and compete again for major trophies.
