The New Jersey Devils took on the Ottawa Senators in Saturday’s matchup at the Senators’ home stadium, the Canadian Tire Centre, in Ottawa. The Devils lost 1-4 in this matchup.
These two teams played hard against each other. They had plenty of face-offs, turnovers, and power plays. Both teams made great plays and played smart when it came to scoring goals.
New Jersey did a great job keeping the puck on the outside where the Senators couldn’t get to it. They attempted 26 shots in total during this game, but scored only once during the entire night.
The two players who put forth the most were Dougie Hamilton and Timo Meier. They took many shots in each quarter of this game, but were unsuccessful even when working with their teammates to try to score a second time. It was another frustrating loss for this team.
In the first period, Ottawa took the lead, setting up a 1-0 score. The Senators’ Brady Tkachuk scored. It didn’t take long for the Devils to come back and tie up the game 1-1 on Meier’s 14th goal of the season.
During the second period, the game remained quiet, with neither team taking a shot. During this period, Hamilton was pushing to get his team a goal. He had taken three shots, but all three were unsuccessful during this period.
By the third period, both teams became more aggressive on the ice. Dylan Cozens scored first and was assisted by both Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson, followed by Tim Stützle, who also had assistance from Tkachuk and Claude Giroux. During this portion of the game, the Devils grew agitated and began to put a little more heat into their play.
Both the Devils’ Brenden Dillon and Senators’ Cozens were called on penalties for nearly fighting on the ice. Dillon was penalized for roughing and Cozens for Slashing.
It was not an easy game for New Jersey, and they will come back from this loss. The Devils will return Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
