Two early Kinnelon special teams turnovers helped stake Hanover Park to an early 22-0 lead that it would not relinquish on its way to topping the Colts 38-7 on Sept. 4, 2026.

Outside of Kinnelon’s lone touchdown drive, the Hornet defense held firm against the Colts’ ground-and-pound offense. Hanover Park limited Kinnelon to a measly 100 yards of total offense: 83 on the ground and 17 through the air.

Beyond two forced fumbles, the Hanover Park special teams also scored a touchdown of their own when Luke Morgese took a punt return to the house in the third quarter.

The Hornets’ game against Kinnelon was Johnny Kinney Memorial Youth Night at Hanover Park, which honors former Hanover Park youth football player Johnny Kinney who lost a two-year battle with cancer in 2023. Hornet senior running back/linebacker Rocco Zirpoli wore Kinney’s number 42 during the game in his honor.

With the win, Hanover Park improves to 2-0 early in the season, while Kinnelon falls to 0-2. The Hornets will travel to North Caldwell to face West Essex on Friday, while the Colts will host Indian Hills on Thursday.
