As the upcoming 2026-2027 NBA season is a month away, all 30 teams begin NBA Training Camp at the end of September.
Brooklyn Nets Basketball starting with the first of three preseason games is just 31 days away where they will play against the Charlotte Hornets on the road on October 6.
The Eastern Conference this year will be stacked from top to bottom with many teams making big signings, trades, or just coming back with a healthy team. Just in the Nets division alone, it’s already stacked with the defending champions New York Knicks, the star-studded Philadelphia 76ers, the Toronto Raptors who added Kawhi Leonard to an already playoff team, and the Boston Celtics who won a title two years ago.
In the NBA Draft, the Nets drafted two players in the first round in Mikel Brown Jr. and Joshua Jefferson. Then, in the offseason, the team acquired Julius Randle in a four-team trade to bring him to Brooklyn. The Nets also signed two quality role players with signing Moritz Wagner and Keon Ellis. They also re-signed both Day’Ron Sharpe and Josh Minott to two-year extensions.
After the Nets won 20 games last season, this upcoming year Brooklyn will continue building to be a competent basketball team. The last couple of seasons, the Brooklyn Nets have been a rebuilding team where they haven’t won a lot of games. Over the last two years alone, the Nets have drafted seven players in the first round. Last year, Brooklyn made NBA history in the 2025 NBA Draft with becoming the first team to select five players in the first round of the draft.
The Nets young core consists of Egor Dёmin, Mikel Brown Jr., Nolan Traoré, Danny Wolf, Ben Saraf, Drake Powell, and Joshua Jefferson. All of these players are in their early twenties and are considered NBA “babies” who are trying to learn and develop their games at the NBA level. With the Nets very young roster, the organization has done a nice job surrounding the team with veterans players from Julius Randle to Michael Porter Jr. to Terance Mann and experienced role players who have been around the league for seasons.
Now it’s all about putting the team together and continuing to develop players to move in the right direction. Despite, the losing records and seasons the last few years, Nets coach Jordi Fernández and his coaching staff has gotten the most of the team. They are building that established culture where when you play the Nets, you have to compete against them at a high level for all 48 minutes and it’s not a easy win to come by. No doubt there are a lot of teams in the NBA that are better and more talented than Brooklyn but the Nets are building good habits to get to that next step of competing for a play-in and playoff spot.
It will be very tough this upcoming season for the Brooklyn Nets to compete for a playoff spot let alone a play-in spot with being a top 10th seed in the conference. Is anything possible? Absolutely but more than likely the team could still be one season or more away from taking that next step. However, it will be a good year to see what the Nets could put together and figure out what they currently and don’t have on the roster.
