Jeff Stoutland Exits As Eagles Offensive Line Coach

By Earl Spence

Jeff Stoutland 63, has been the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line coach since 2013.

Ever since his time in Philadelphia the Eagles have had one of the best offensive lines in the league. He led seven offensive linemen to 27 combined pro bowl appearances.

Stoutland was also a college coach for 30 years and Alabama’s offensive line coach from 2011-12.

Stoutland announced on X, “Philadelphia, I’ve decided my time coaching with the Eagles has come to an end,” he wrote on social media. “When I arrived here in 2013, I did not know what I was signing up for. I quickly learned what this city demands. But more importantly, what it gives back. The past 13 years have been the great privilege of my coaching career. I didn’t just work here, I became one of you. Stout out.”

Stoutland was given the role of run game coordinator in 2018 adding upon the role he has in being the offensive line coach. In 2024 he helped Saquon Barkley have his historic season. Barkley set an NFL record with the most rushing yards combined in the regular season and postseason with 2,504 rushing yards. Eagles All-Pro LT Jordan Mailata felt “heartbroken” over the announcement. Stoutland helped develop offensive linemen such as future hall of famer Jason Kelce, hall of fame caliber Lane Johnson, and all-pro Jordan Mailata.

Things were starting to change as injuries in the offensive line this past season hamper the team. Kevin Petullo and Nick Sirianni started to incorporate new run designs and Stoutland felt he no longer desired the title of run game coordinator. Philadelphia hired Sean Mannion last week as their new offensive coordinator, planning to bring a new system not being catered to Stoutland’s style.

Alan Herman, Stoutland’s agent, spoke with ESPN last week and said that Stoutland was frustrated that his voice was not being heard within the organization and it was time to move on.

“The Philadelphia Eagles thank Jeff Stoutland for his legendary contributions to the game of football at the college and professional levels. Stout’s influence throughout football is immense, having helped countless players reach their true potential, including many who went on to earn All-Pro honors and some who developed into future Hall of Fame talents. His passion for the development of young players set the bar not only for our organization but for the entire National Football League. It is hard to fathom another coach investing more personally and professionally in their players than Jeff Stoutland,” the Eagles said during their statement.

According to a team source, Stoutland is not expected to coach next season. The source, however said he was offered a role to stay as Sean Mannion took over as the new offensive coordinator but declined the offer.
