The Montclair State Redhawks men’s basketball team faced the Ramapo Roadrunners Wednesday night at home in Panzer Athletic Center.
Montclair State entered this game continuing to dominate all season long having won 20 straight games and being undefeated. Ramapo had lost their previous game at home against TCNJ 85-59. The Redhawks entering this matchup against Ramapo were 56-48 all-time.
Jacob Morales started the game off with back-to-back threes for the Redhawks. Myles Primas scored on back to back possessions to break the game open to a 10-2 lead in just three minutes. At the 14:09 mark Montclair ballooned the lead 19-6. Montclair State would make four straight threes from Cristian Nicholson, Christian Cevis, Jacob Morales and Kevin Beck making it a 36-16 lead.
Montclair State would have a 61-32 lead heading into the second half. Despite the offensive barrage from the Redhawks, Orion Mickens from Ramapo stood out with 14 points out of the Roadrunners’ 32 points. The Redhawks had 12 threes in the first half shooting 46 percent from three.
In the second half, the Roadrunners would go on a 7-0 run to begin the half. Morales would make a layup to end the run. Andrew Martin made a layup which forced a timeout by the Roadrunners and Montclair State had jumped out to a 26-point lead.
Elijah Barlow would star for Ramapo early in the second half having seven points which contributed to the run. At 9:04 in the second half, Tyrell Murchison made a layup which caused a timeout by Montclair State that cut the lead down 78-62. After the timeout, the Redhawks went on a 27-13 run to close out the game. Montclair State won 103-75.
The Redhawks had 18 threes as a team and Jacob Morales led the team in scoring with 25 points. Mickens scored 30 points which led the Roadrunners. Montclair State was on fire all game defensively as Ramapo had 23 turnovers. Ramapo scored zero three pointers during the game and they only took four attempts. The Redhawks had an impressive stat as they had 17 steals compared to 14 turnovers.
Ramapo next plays Rowan University on the road this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. while Montclair State will head out on the road to play Stockton University this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
I spoke with Ahmad Robertson about their game against Stockton where they will be trying to extend the win streak to 22.
“Like we’ve been playing every game, going to the game with the same mentality, kill, execute, run our stuff, be good in pressure.”
Last time around Kabrien Goss hit the game-winning three to beat Stockton at home now they travel on the road to continue to make history.
