Gotham FC closed the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup with a commanding performance, defeating Morocco’s ASFAR 4–0 on Sunday in the tournament’s third-place playoff at Arsenal Stadium.

The reigning NWSL and Concacaf champions responded to their semifinal defeat with a composed and efficient display, converting early control into goals and seeing out the match comfortably.

“It’s a similar game in a lot of ways to the one we played three or four days ago,” head coach Juan Carlos Amorós said. “I think the main difference to this, we obviously were able to get the early lead that we know unsettled teams, and we were able to be obviously more clinical in front of goal, which really allow us to then play a bit more of a game where players can enjoy.”

ASFAR tested Gotham early in the third minute, but the chance was cleared as Gotham absorbed the initial pressure and gradually took control of possession.

The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Lilly Reale found Khyah Harper on the left flank. Harper drove inside and finished from close range to open the scoring. ASFAR nearly responded moments later, but goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger produced a point-blank save to preserve the lead.

Gotham doubled the advantage in the 38th minute following a quick passing sequence in the attacking third. Sofia Cook won the ball near the right side of the box and worked it to Jaedyn Shaw, who set up Savannah McCaskill for a first-time finish.

Just before halftime, Gotham extended their lead. Harper slipped Shaw through the defense, and Shaw was brought down in the penalty area. She converted the ensuing penalty in the 43rd minute to give Gotham a 3–0 lead at the break.

“We created a lot of opportunities last game and same for this game,” Shaw said. “It’s just the difference as we put more in the back of the net.”

Gotham added a fourth early in the second half. In the 48th minute, Harper’s backheel released Shaw down the left side, and after Shaw’s cross forced an initial save, Midge Purce finished the rebound to make it 4–0.

The remainder of the match allowed Gotham to manage the result and maintain the clean sheet, while also providing moments for squad rotation and milestones, including professional debuts for Andrea Kitahata and Talia Sommer.

“It feels amazing,” Shaw said. “This isn’t the medal that we came here for, but to come together as a team in this game and get a result, it’s really special.”

The bronze medal capped Gotham’s first appearance in the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, marking the club’s arrival on the global stage. With a blend of experienced leaders and emerging talent, Gotham heads into the NWSL season with confidence, momentum, and the belief that even greater success lies ahead.
